The couple documented their journey with selfies and videos at the sacred confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. One such selfie video recorded by Ashok captured them smiling, minutes before their dip in the Sangam.

That evening, Ashok called his eldest son Ashwini, sobbing uncontrollably. He told his son that Minakshi had gotten separated in the crowd and had gone missing. This call set off an emotional chain reaction within the family. Ashwini and his brothers, Ashish and Adarsh, were devastated. Given the recent stampedes reported at Mahakumbh, their fear was only intensified. The idea of their aging mother being lost in such a chaotic environment was unbearable.
