The Consequence of Placing a Camera in the Grave: A Warning from the Unseen
In a world increasingly driven by science, experimentation, and technology, there are some realms that remain beyond the reach of human comprehension. The unseen world—Al-Ghaib in Islamic terminology—is one such domain. It is a realm where human senses and man-made tools cannot penetrate, no matter how advanced or powerful they may be. This story, widely narrated by Islamic scholar Mufti Alam Madari, recounts the chilling consequences faced by two individuals who attempted to expose the hidden truths of the grave using a camera.
The Experiment of the Curious
According to Mufti Alam, this real-life incident took place years ago and involved two Jewish men who were deeply skeptical of the Islamic belief in the life of the grave. They had often heard Muslims cite verses from the Qur’an and Hadith that describe the events occurring inside the grave—such as the arrival of angels, questioning of the deceased, and the beginning of either eternal peace or torment.
The two men, intrigued and doubtful, decided to verify these claims through modern technology. They made elaborate preparations to install a camera inside a grave. Their goal was clear: they wanted to capture visual evidence to either validate or disprove the centuries-old Islamic teachings regarding the afterlife.
They set up their camera system with precision. The plan was to bury a dead body as per Islamic rituals and observe what transpired through a live computer feed. They were fully confident in their equipment and the possibility that technology could uncover the secrets of the unseen.
Ignoring the Boundaries of Faith
Mufti Alam emphasized that such actions stem from an over-reliance on empirical knowledge and a lack of submission to the divine truths revealed by Allah and His Messenger (peace be upon him). He stated that when people pursue inquiry in matters beyond human perception—especially when it comes to divine matters—they often fall into error. These matters are not open for experimentation, for they are grounded in belief, not in visible proof.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once said, “If I had not feared that you would stop burying your dead, I would have asked Allah to let you hear the punishment of the grave.” This statement reflects both the reality of the torment that takes place in the grave and the mercy of Allah, who has concealed it from human senses to maintain emotional stability.
The Moment of Truth
Returning to the two men, Mufti Alam narrates that once the burial was complete and the camera had been positioned to record from within the grave, they sat in front of their monitoring system, eagerly anticipating some activity. They were eager to see if any angels would arrive or if any supernatural events would occur.
But what followed was a terrifying moment that shook them to their core.
Suddenly, there was a massive explosion-like sound in the system. The camera screen went blank. The computer and all their recording devices blew up with such force that the men monitoring the footage were killed on the spot. Their entire setup was destroyed beyond repair.
Mufti Alam stressed that no one saw what exactly entered the grave or what happened inside, but what was clear was that their attempt to expose the unseen led to their own tragic end. The very tools they used became the cause of their demise.
This incident, according to the Mufti, was reported in various papers and media outlets at the time, and it served as a reminder that some truths are meant to be believed—not dissected with human-made tools.
Belief in the Unseen: The Core of Faith
Mufti Alam used this event as a platform to remind Muslims that the core of faith (Iman) lies in believing in the unseen. He referenced the verse from Surah Al-Baqarah (2:2-3) in the Qur’an:
“This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah – who believe in the unseen…”
Belief in what is beyond our senses—such as angels, jinn, the Day of Judgment, paradise, hell, and the events of the grave—is what separates the believers from the skeptics. When one believes in Allah and His Messenger, they also accept the knowledge of the unseen imparted to them.
Mufti Alam went on to say that the grave is either a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a pit from the pits of Hell, as described in authentic hadith. Once the body is placed inside the grave and the people walk away after burial, two angels—Munkar and Nakir—appear and question the soul. The deeds of the person, their beliefs, and their actions are all brought into account. This marks the beginning of a person’s journey into the hereafter.
The Limits of Science
While science has offered immense benefits to mankind and expanded our understanding of the physical world, it still has limits. It cannot measure spiritual dimensions or quantify the experiences of the soul. Just as a pigeon closing its eyes cannot deny the presence of a cat, skeptics who deny the unseen truths cannot escape the realities simply by refusing to acknowledge them.
Mufti Alam drew a powerful analogy: If a person refuses to believe in something simply because they cannot see it, their denial does not erase its existence. A person may close their eyes to fire, but it still burns.
A Message to Believers and Skeptics Alike
Towards the end of his talk, Mufti Alam extended a heartfelt message. He said that even if someone does not believe in the punishment or events of the grave, they will one day find out—when it’s too late to change their mind. For the believers, he urged them to remain firm in their faith and trust the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him), for no one has spoken the truth as clearly and sincerely as he did.
He warned against the modern-day trend of questioning everything, especially when it comes to matters of the unseen. True faith requires submission, not endless investigation. The scholars (ulama), he said, are the inheritors of prophetic knowledge, and one must seek guidance from them when navigating such complex matters—not from self-styled researchers driven by ego or arrogance.
A Call for Compassion and Action
In the final part of the video, Mufti Alam shifted from theological reflection to a call for social responsibility. He highlighted the charitable work done by his organization, which provides monthly rations and free medical treatment to widows, orphans, and chronically ill individuals.
He urged the viewers to contribute generously, emphasizing that charity is a form of ongoing reward (sadaqah jariyah). Supporting the poor, helping the sick, and ensuring no child sleeps hungry are all actions that reflect the true spirit of Islam.
Mufti Alam ended with a sincere plea:
“Let us take a pledge that no child from a poor family sleeps hungry. Let us stand with the sick, the widows, and the orphans. Let us show the world what it means to be a Muslim—not just in words, but in action.”
Conclusion
This powerful narrative is not just a tale of a failed experiment. It is a reminder of the limits of human knowledge, the truth of the unseen, and the need for unwavering faith in what Allah and His Prophet have taught. It is also a call for kindness, charity, and service to humanity.
In a time where technology continues to grow and challenge traditional beliefs, the story of the two men and their camera in the grave is a warning: some truths are not for the eye to see but for the heart to believe.
