Fans of the couple surely have enough reason to rejoice, looking at the two actors go down memory lane, share unseen wedding footage, and give us a peek into the sweet mundanities of their life. It’s what each of them didn’t dwell on is that lent an intrigue, a dark edge to their otherwise too-good-to-be-true marriage.

For instance, Ranveer did all the heavy lifting when it came to the couple talking about their past: how they courted each other, how he proposed to her, and how she broke the news to her family. Deepika just smiled and sporadically chuckled along, as if she was listening to it for the first time. Ranveer had a very clear version of the story to tell, whereas Deepika seemed like she was discovering it and joining the dots with us.

On the other hand, once they shared the wedding video, Deepika took charge of the conversation. Because then, the conversation veered past the honeymoon phase. She touched upon the tougher things: how each of them has a very different upbringing, lifestyle, and priorities. She acknowledged it’s been tough, but they’re willing to work towards a successful marriage. “It’s the work that makes it special,” Deepika said, as Ranveer acknowledged it with a gesture that seemed more like a surrender than an agreement.

Both Ranveer and Deepika played on their strengths. He’s all heart so he focused on the courtship, where love has just started blossoming. She’s all brains, and far more diplomatic, so she set the tone for us on how to see the couple in their present and the future.

Wedding video – a masterstroke

To share their wedding movie for the first time on the show clearly helped the cause. At a time when newly married actors are releasing their custom-made wedding videos in cahoots with music companies and bridalwear designers (like Kiara Advani, Parineeti Chopra) or selling them to streaming platforms (like Nayanthara, Hansika Motwani), the five-year delay in the release of DeepVeer’s wedding movie deserves credit for actually keeping the things intimate.

More than the wedding video itself, it’s Karan Johar’s instinctive reaction that actually struck a chord with those watching. For him to break into tears, give the couple a tight hug, and then explain how he feels deprived of a meaningful relationship – the reaction felt like the most organic part of the episode. If this was couple’s therapy, then making the therapist cry says more about his sensitivity, his emotional void, than about the marriage of the couple.

The 39th Chakradhar Festival, which started on September 7, showcasing classical music and dance forms and featuring renowned artists from across the country and abroad, will conclude in Chhattisgarh’s Raigarh district on Monday. The festival, which keeps alive the traditions of Maharaja Chakradhar Singh (1905-1947) of Raigarh, was initiated in 1985 and officially named the ‘Chakradhar Festival’ in 1987. The Maharaja was a renowned patron of classical arts, known for establishing the Raigarh Gharana of Kathak and contributing significantly to Hindustani classical music.

This year’s festival featured performances by renowned artists. Veteran actor Hema Malini presented Bharatanatyam, Grammy Award winner Rakesh Chaurasia enchanted with his flute recital, and actor Meenakshi Seshadri made a notable return to classical dance after 30 years.

Santoor player Rahul Sharma performed fusion music, while Padma Shri Ranjana Gauhar showcased Odissi dance on Kabir. Gajendra Panda delivered a dance on “Ramnamritam,” and other highlights included performances by Ramlal Bareth and Basanti Vaishnav.
