Koffee With Karan‘s latest episode featured a mother and son duo for the first time in all the eight seasons. It was graced by veteran actress, Sharmila Tagore and his doting son, Saif Ali Khan. During their presence on the show, they revealed some of the unknown anecdotes from their lives, and these are simply unmissable. For the unversed, Saif Ali Khan was earlier married to Amrita Singh, and they were blessed with two kids, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Post their separation, Saif tied the knot with Kareena Kapoor and welcomed two munchkins, Taimur Ali Khan and Jehangir Ali Khan.

On the 10th episode of Koffee With Karan season 8, Saif Ali Khan and his mommy, Sharmila Tagore were asked about many unknown stories about the former’s childhood, marriages and many more. Thus, the mother-son duo was also seen opening up about Saif’s split from his first wife, Amrita Singh. To this, the doting son mentioned that his mother was the first person to whom he shared the news of his marriage with Amrita. However, Saif also mentioned that he told her about the same news, the day after he actually got married. Similarly, Saif clarified that Sharmila was also the first person to whom he opened up about his slit.

However, while discussion the same topic on Koffee With Karan, Saif revealed that when he had told Sharmila about marrying Amrita, she was extremely heartbroken with the news. The actor mentioned that at that time, his mother was in Mumbai to meet him when he shared the happy news with her that he got married to Amrita the previous day. In Saif’s words:

“A big tear fell out of her eye and she started crying. She said, ‘you’ve really hurt me’.”

After listening to Saif, Sharmila added that, according to her, it was a good thing to share ‘every aspect of a kid’s life’ with their parents as they raise them. However, Saif then added that Sharmila was completely against his decision to separate from Amrita. However, the doting mother had also assured him she would support him in every aspect of his life, if he was happy.

Then, Sharmila subtly hinted at Saif and Amrita’s breakup that they didn’t part ways harmoniously. Sharmila mentioned that Amrita needed time to cool down, and although, the former tried to accept the fact that her son and daughter-in-law were breaking up, she mentioned that it was not a happy time for the family. Revealing the reason behind it, Sharmila added that they lost not just Amrita but also the Pataudi grandkids, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan. Sharmila added:

“When you are together for such a long time and you have such lovely children, then no break up is easy. Then it is not a harmonious… I know it is difficult to have harmony at that stage, everybody is hurt… so that stage was not nice but I tried. But that’s water under the bridge, she needed time to cool down.”
