When Amitabh Bachchan stood up for his ‘daughter’ Aishwarya Rai saying he will ‘not tolerate’ comments on her, “I shall fight for her till my last breath”

The rumours of trouble between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the rest of the Bachchan family including Amitabh Bachchan have been rife for a while. However, the family time and again made public appearances and gestures that put these rumours to the test. It is known that Aish and her father-in-law Amitabh share a close bond, which goes back to before the actress married his son and became family. They have worked in several films together and share a great relationship of admiration and respect. So much that he has always taken a stand for her be it after her marriage or before.

Once, a report published by a tabloid about Aish enraged Amitabh. He was upset by this invasion of privacy and slammed the media’s actions on his blog. In the process, he defended Aishwarya Rai and the Bachchan family’s right to privacy.

Amitabh Bachchan defends Aishwarya Rai

Back in 2010, a Mumbai tabloid claimed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was unable to conceive due to stomach tuberculosis. BigB strongly condemned the tabloid for circulating false and insensitive information about his daughter-in-law. He noted that such reports were not only intrusive but also deeply heartbreaking, especially since they concerned personal and sensitive matters like one’s health.

Amitabh slammed the tabloid in his blog, wherein he reportedly wrote, “I write to you today in deep anguish, pain and disgust. This article is completely false, completely fabricated, unsubstantiated, insensitive and of the lowest quality of journalism there ever was.”

He went on to add that Aishwarya is like a daughter to him, and not just his daughter-in-law and that he will fight for her if anyone disrespects her.

He noted, “I am the head of my family. Aishwarya is not my daughter-in-law, she is my daughter, a woman, a lady in my house and home. If anyone will speak derogatorily about her, I shall fight for her till my last breath. If you have something to say to the men in the house, Abhishek or me, I shall bear it. BUT … if you shall make injudicious remarks on the women in my home, I shall not tolerate it !!!.”

Amitabh took a stand for Aish before her marriage

Notably, this incident took place after Aishwarya and Abhishek’s marriage in 2007. Even before they tied the knot, Amitabh Bachchan had once stood up for Aishwarya Rai. While the two were filming for Khakee near Nashik in 2003 along with Akshay Kumar, the Miss World 1994 met with an accident. She had to be rushed to the hospital immediately from the sets.

Back then, the media’s portrayal of her accident had upsetted Amitabh. He said, “For two nights I couldn’t sleep. To see this happen in front of my eyes! Her back was lacerated with cactus thorns. The bone in the rear portion of her feet is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was reported as trivial.”

Later, Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007, to eventually become Amitabh’s daughter-in-law. Aishwarya and Abhishek welcomed their daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan in 2011.
