When Shah Rukh Khan hit back

Shah Rukh Khan, known as the ‘King of Bollywood,’ is celebrated not only for his on-screen charisma but also for his acts of kindness and humility in real life. Among the many anecdotes that showcase his generosity is a heartwarming story of how he went out of his way to help a teary-eyed film journalist who had missed her bus home.

Veteran film journalist Roshmila Bhattacharya, during an appearance on the YouTube channel In Conversation with Ishan, recounted an anecdote from her time on the set of an SRK film for an interview with the superstar.

Roshmila Bhattacharya recalled how she got late and missed the bus home

Roshmilla said, “I used to live in Vashi, and in those days, there was no [local] train to Vashi. There were only buses, and the last bus would leave at 11:30 pm. I was in Film City and I was looking at the watch. There were no mobile phones or anything in those days, and my husband was waiting at home.”

As Shah Rukh was filming, he would join the interview during breaks between shots. She recalled, “He came back and said, ‘Let’s continue the interview.’ I was 24–25 years old at the time, and I was on the verge of tears.” He asked, ‘What happened?’ I told him that my last bus is gone, and I don’t know where I am going to spend the night. In those days, you wouldn’t even get a taxi to Vashi.”

Shah Rukh Khan then helped her reach home

Upon hearing her predicament, Shah Rukh immediately asked Roshmila why she hadn’t mentioned it earlier and decided to assist her. She recounted, “He said, ‘Don’t worry, I will send my car.’ I asked, ‘To Vashi? It will take a long time.’ He replied, ‘Yes, I am shooting here, so the car will go and drop you. Just tell my driver to call me once he reaches Vashi so I can let him know whether to come back here or go home.’”

Roshmila, concerned, innocently asked Shah Rukh how he would get home if his driver went to drop her. She recalled, “He said, ‘Don’t worry, somebody will take me.’ The car then went all the way to Vashi and dropped me.”

This small yet impactful gesture highlights the superstar’s grounded nature and his ability to connect with people beyond his stardom. For the journalist, it wasn’t just a moment of relief but an unforgettable experience that showcased the superstar’s genuine nature.
