Esha Deol had big shoes to fill when she joined the highly competitive film industry as the daughter of cinema legends Hema Malini and Dharmendra. The actress gained attention after having starred in critical and commercial blockbusters such as No Entry (2005) and Dhoom (2004). Since the Yuva actress managed to make a name for herself by starring in the aforementioned hits, she was closely covered by the paparazzi at the time. However, not everything published about her life in the media was a true reflection of her personality.

Unfortunately, Esha Deol and her parents were hit hard when rumours of the former being a drug addict started circulating in mainstream media.

The early 2010s were a tough time for one of Bollywood’s most respected couples, Hema Malini and Dharmendra. This was because some entertainment portals had wrongly accused their daughter, Esha Deol, of experimenting with drugs and, therefore, heading to rehab for recovery. In ‘Dream Girl’ Hema Malini’s biography, Hema Malini: Beyond the Dream Girl, Esha opened up about this dark chapter of her life.

The Tell Me O Kkhuda star mentioned that rumours about her being a drug addict had somehow impacted her family; so much so that she was pushed to get a blood test done to prove her innocence to her mother, Hema Malini.

Esha Deol’s response to the allegations

Esha confessed, “I would like to say that I am dead against drugs and I have never touched it.” She added that she was “depressed and hurt” after rumours about her being a drug addict started spreading. The actress continued, “I told my mom she could get my blood test done to check.”

Admitting that she did have a few drinks while partying with her mates back then, Esha stressed, “I would have never done anything that would put my parents to shame. Yes, I would party, I would have a few drinks with my friends, I had my share of fun and why not? That was the right age and time. At that age, everyone parties and drinks; the only issue was that I was in the public eye.”
