On October 12, a tragic incident shocked the political sphere of Maharashtra. Baba Siddiqui, a prominent political figure and former Minister of the state, was shot dead by three armed assailants. Emerging reports suggest that the assassination is connected to the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, furthering the troubling pattern of high-profile crimes tied to this group.

The Mumbai Police Crime Branch swiftly arrested individuals linked to the case, adding to the gang’s already infamous history. This includes the May 2022 murder of Punjabi musician Sidhu Moosewala and the April 2024 shooting incident outside Salman Khan’s residence. Notably, Salman Khan has been a constant target of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which has made headlines for repeatedly threatening his life.

The Enmity with Salman Khan: A Deep-Rooted Issue

The source of this enmity dates back to the 1998 blackbuck hunting case involving Salman Khan. Khan was accused of poaching two blackbucks during the filming of Hum Saath Saath Hain, an act that deeply offended the Bishnoi community, which reveres the blackbuck as sacred. Since then, Khan has faced numerous death threats from both the community and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Lawrence Bishnoi himself has made alarming statements regarding his intentions toward the actor. In 2018, while appearing in court, Bishnoi openly threatened to kill Salman Khan, declaring that his community’s honor must be avenged. The situation escalated in July 2022 when a gangster named Sampat Nehra, allegedly linked to Bishnoi, was sent to surveil Khan’s residence in Mumbai. Though the assassination attempt failed, it underscored the seriousness of the threat.

In 2023, the threats against Khan intensified, with the actor’s manager receiving a menacing email from Bishnoi, embedded with an interview where Bishnoi reiterated his desire for vengeance. Bishnoi demanded that Salman Khan visit their temple and publicly apologize for his actions during the blackbuck poaching incident. By April 2024, the situation reached a new level when two men opened fire outside Khan’s residence, allegedly hired by Bishnoi’s gang.

Baba Siddiqui’s Murder: The Connection to Salman Khan

The murder of Baba Siddiqui, however, has brought a different angle to the case. According to reports, Siddiqui was targeted due to his close ties with Salman Khan and alleged connections with underground figures such as Dawood Ibrahim. A viral Facebook post by a member of the Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the assassination, further stating that anyone who assists Salman Khan or has ties to the Dawood gang will face consequences. Interestingly, the gang emphasized that there was no personal animosity toward Siddiqui himself, but his associations made him a target.

In response to the assassination, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch arrested Preneet Loner from Pune, who is the brother of another individual, Shubham Loner, believed to have claimed responsibility for Siddiqui’s murder. Shubham Loner remains at large.
