The Story of Lawrence Bishnoi: From Love to Revenge

They say love can transform a person, but for Lawrence Bishnoi, love turned his life into a whirlwind, igniting a fury that shook the world. Few know the depth of the tragedy that set Lawrence Bishnoi on his dark path; his journey began with an intense love that ended in heartbreak and vengeance.

Lawrence was a bright young man, born into a well-to-do family in Abohar, Punjab. He attended a convent school, where he excelled academically and had all the comforts of life. His family was well-off, owning large tracts of land, and his father was a constable in Haryana police. It was during his school days that Lawrence first fell in love. This love journeyed with him to DAV College in Chandigarh, where he enrolled alongside his beloved, a relationship that was destined to change the course of his life.

As Lawrence entered college, his interests gravitated more toward student politics than studies. His ambition was to make a name for himself by becoming the college president. To achieve this, he founded the Student Organization of Punjab University (SOPU). However, despite his enthusiasm, his dreams hit a major setback in the 2011 student union elections when his group, SOPU, lost.

But this defeat was only the beginning. Lawrence’s rival faction in college, seeking to hurt him where it would hurt most, targeted his girlfriend. In a horrific act, they allegedly set her ablaze. This brutal incident devastated Lawrence and lit within him a fire for revenge. The love he lost became the turning point of his life, pushing him onto a path of violence and crime. He began by taking up arms in college, attacking rival student leaders and racking up a series of serious criminal cases, marking his entry into a life of crime.

Soon, Lawrence’s infamy grew, and he became one of the most feared gangsters. Over time, his vendetta went beyond the boundaries of college and reached Bollywood. In 1998, when Bollywood actor Salman Khan was accused of blackbuck poaching in Rajasthan, the Bishnoi community, which regards blackbucks as sacred, was outraged. Although Lawrence was only five years old at the time, the incident left a deep impression. Years later, his anger against Salman Khan remained, fueled by his community’s sentiments. Recently, in connection with the murder of Maharashtra’s former minister Baba Siddique, a close associate of Salman Khan, Lawrence’s name came up again, with his gang hinting that anyone aiding Khan or his allies would face dire consequences.

Thus, the story of Lawrence Bishnoi is one of transformation from a student to one of India’s most notorious gangsters. He lost love, found vengeance, and his legacy of fear continues, resonating even from behind prison walls.
